I do not know if I have hardware deficiency or software problem. It usually happens when I fast forward or fast rewind the recorded video during commercial. It will freeze then restart itself. Then I will get that Microsoft notice about the error. Sometimes when I have to manually restart it, it won't do anything until I unplug(from USB) the Hauppauge. And somehow, I noticed that it has some effect on the cable box because the reaction is slower than when the cablebox is connected to TV. I'm thinking my PC is not fast enough to process the fast forward/rewind flow of data coming from the box? Thanks.

    When I had my PC connected to the HD-PVR ... I used 2 sticks of 2GB ram = 4GBs and the MOBO was a MSI K9N6PGM2 ... AMD X2 2.8 GHZ CPU ... nvidia 9500GT video card.

I use a powered audio \ video amp for providing me with extra outputs. I had separate video component connections going directly to my HD-PVR and to a Pioneer Elite Receiver which then connected to my Panasonic HDTV.

Video Component output came from my Directv HR10-250 and went to the powered amplifier first.

Nothing goes wrong ... I do have some lip sync audio problems from the videos I create ... which clean up nicely when I use VideoReDo for x264 videos.

My thoughts are ... your USB 2.0 ... is not so good with your mobo.

  3. 1) I'd repair the video drivers if I were you. It would help if you posted the specific error, but I'll bet it's video-driver related. I've had a similar problem from time to time, and others have as well.

    2) Re-installing your capture software probably wouldn't hurt.

    3) Yeah, you may be pushing your computer a bit too hard. You can definitely freeze up the HD-PVR if you do. (Ask me how I know). You don't say what you're playing your recordings with, i.e. what software player. Anyway, don't do that.

That's quite apart from the capture process though. Since the Hauppauge has hardware encoding, your CPU is not doing any encoding.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!

    Thanks, guys.

I thought my problem is only during fast forward/rewind. Last night and today, my PC crashed(the Happauge froze) while recording a boxing match. One after 40 minutes, the second after 35 minutes.

I am using Total Media Extreme to capture and SplashLite to play. Video (.TS) stutters when played in VLC. The video driver and the capture software were recently installed because of the OP. The error message is the generic one from Microsoft which has no usable information except maybe if sent to Microsoft for decoding.

That leaves the USB 2.0. Maybe. I noticed that transfering data file is much slower than the other PC in the house.
