Is there a way to have a picture as one of your custom color choices for text in programs like Paint? Example: I have a letter "O", but instead of it being red, blue or other, I use a pic/background as my color. Or is it easier/possible to create a font with the pic as my font color? Sorry, I hope this was enough info.

Yeah, you can do that. In CorelDraw, that's called a "powerclip". Don't know what other programs call it, or if they have it as a preset tool.

If you want to do it manually, put the picture on the bottom layer, then put your text on the next layer up, and take out the fill, select the text and turn on mask.

That's just the general principle. I don't use Gimp, but I've heard it's excellent.

Windows Paint? Not in the XP version. I don't know about Win7, but I doubt it.

As others have pointed out, in more sophisticated image editors you can use two layers and a matte or alpha channel.

Windows Paint doesn't support layers, opacity or masks. But you can type transparent text and reveal a background using cut and paste. See this tutorial.

Most other Paint programs support layers.

    Here's a free one

That Windows Paint sucks, I guess. If it can't do anything, what's it good for? Kinda stupid.

It does the basics but only in one layer. Enough for doing the graphics postings here,
