Is this possible? First I'd like to know which is the best program to take max quality screencaps? And about the quality, I'm bit confused, is there a big difference from 10mbps to 30 mbps for example? Higher bitrate makes the image more grainy I'd say, even if it's supposed to be more detailed? maybe it's like that cause of my small laptop screen..

I did a snapshot with vlc and it gave me a 72 dpi image, is there any way to extract higher dpi? does anyone have any experience of any sort in this? Is is possible to get a decent quality print from the screencaps, whatever size.

Can't wait to hear your response

    thanks!
Why bother with screen caps of Blu-Ray? Why not capture the 1920x1080 frames of interest?

Video is made of pixels. DPI depends on screen size.

    You could try APS

    http://autops.sourceforge.net/

which combines the 'print screen' button/copy paste/ and save as all-in-one

Well I have 1080p screen so it's basically the same, is it? Which program should I use to get images frame by frame and save them in .tiff or .png for example. VLC doesn't allow frame by frame scrolling, and virtualdub doesn't open .mkv. I tried to google for programs, but didn't find a good one yet.

Also, does anything else affect the snapshot/frame quality , like videocard settings or smth?
    vdub has a mkv plugin

lots of things affect screencapture end result . Too many to list.

For example , if you take screenshot in vdub, the Y'CbCr=>RGB conversion is done using Rec601 (color would be slightly different than if you used Rec709)

VLC has a good framegrab. It applies the deinterlacer settings (only an issue for 480i, 576i, 1080i).
