  1. hello i hava few questions, please help me if you know the answers to them , thx~
1)how do i decide the source's frame-per-second , and once in know it, do i have to encode it according to the 'PAL', 'NTSC' , 'NTSCfilm' format?
2)i converted and burned the movie - ROLLERBALL wif TMPGEnc in both'VCD-PAL' and 'VCD-NTSC' format. Both times when i played the disc wif on my dreamcast, the movie is not smooth. can somebody please tell me what am i doing wrong here?
3)if bitrate affects the quality of the movie, does it mean if i want superb quality, i just increase the bitrate?

    1. Open your file in mediaplayer, right klick "on the movie" and press "Statistics" or something similar (I've got Swedish windows so I don't know the correct English term)
In the popup you can read framerate.
If the file is an AVI you can open the file in VDub and look in the video menu and klick on framerate...

    2. Incorrect framerate... If the inputfile is PAL (and the encoded file too is PAL) and your DC is american it will probably NOT be smooth.
If the input file is NTSC and your VCD is PAL it will not be smooth.
If you have a PAL input and a NTSC VCD it will not be smooth.
If you have a NTSC input and a NTSC VCD and a PAL DC it will not be smooth... (SOrry for the long textstring, seemed easier to understand this way =)

    3. Yes. Just be sure your player (DC) can handle higher bitrates than original...

You could try or look at the DVD players list, could be there...

No, they mean that the framerate is "doubled" NTSC = 29.97 FPS
But it plays with 60 FPS (On an NTSC TV)

The same with PAL, PAL=25 FPS, plays with 50 FPS on the TV...

The framerate should be 29.97 with NTSC and 25 with PAL.
