I have already tried using XviD4PSP, but it takes me 1 hour and 40 minutes to do a 2-pass.

Here are my computer's specs for reference.

    System Information
Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3
    Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.20GHz
    DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
    Physical RAM: 254MB
    Virtual Memory: 2047MB

  2. Try single pass constant quality instead. It will be twice as fast. Like XviD HQ Turbo. Adjust the Quantizer for the quality you want.

Yeah, I say too to use constant quality - only one pass and roughly half the time. Similar quality at the same bitrate.

Two-pass bitrate encoding is a thing of the past when "fit it on a CD/DvD" applied. It never was natural for video.
I hate VHS. I always did.

  4. And he didn't say how long the video is, that it takes 100 minutes to run 2-passes. But if long enough, the encoding time might not be out of line. Especially since his computer is a dinosaur. But yeah, run single passes for a quant 3 or whatever.

Will you please teach me how to do that with Build 5.37?

I know there's a newer build, but I've heard it has a different interface that is terrible.

I am trying to re-encode 20-25 minute anime episodes.

I have version 5.0.37.8 rev 132. All you do is select "XviD HQ Turbo" in the Video Encoding pulldown. If you want to manually change the Quantizer use the gear button next to the pulldown.

As PuzZLeR pointed out, with constant quantizer encoding you pick the quality, the encoder uses whatever bitrate is necessary to give that quality. With bitrate based encoding you pick the bitrate and the encoder delivers whatever quality it can for that bitrate.

Thanks, I think I got it now. Will let you know if I still need any help though.
