If i want to just keep multiple H264 files to watch my movies via PS3 Media Server, what size files should I rip my movies to?

    And,
My PS3 can pretty much play any file,

Is H264 ripped to .mkv extension??

Are you asking what file size is supported, or what's "best"?

If your PS3 can play it, or can play "pretty much any file", then there shouldn't be a problem in most of what you choose with PS3 Media Server (although I personally don't use either that app or a PS3).

But as for deciding file size, you compromise between quality and disc space. You can keep your file sizes tiny, but you won't get the best quality. It's up to you.

I personally don't care much for file size. It's quality levels I choose and almost always use constant quality.

    Yes and no.

MKV is a container of video/audio/subtitles/etc, and accepts many types of video files such as raw H.264 video streams (which are usually with extension .264 or .avc). When you properly mux these streams into MKV, then the proper extension is .mkv, which means a container that holds video (and other content).

Other similars are .mp4 for the MP4 container, .avi for the AVI container, and so forth...
I hate VHS. I always did.
