Hi Guys. I'm a newbie, so be gentle. I have downloaded the Ulead DVD Movie Factory Trial version and it is pretty simple, except for now. I am ready to burn the mpeg onto the disk and it says the file(786mb) is too large for disk(650mb). Is there a way to make it fit? This is just half of the movie I'd like to copy!! Thanks in advance for your help.![]()

MPEG is burned as ISO mode 2/XA, which means that 800MB of mpeg (80 minutes of standard VCD video) fits on a 700MB/80min CD-R, or 740MB on a 650MB/74 min CD-R. This is the same rule used for audio. . . CD audio is 10MB/min, so 10*80=800MB. Use an 80 minute CD-R and your 780MB file should fit, provided that your encoder set the packet sizes correctly.

Thanks Videoguy. I don't think I used an encoder, I downloaded the movie using Winmx and tried to write it to the CD R using the Ulead program. Is this something that it does automatically?

I'm not even sure if I could burn a VCD with my CD burner. I think I can..

the burner doenst make a differance .. the software that burns to the cd does .. nero has a vcd template ... just dont let nero convert the file ( neros idea of fixing the video has the effect of putting dirty glass in frount of your tv while watching a movie )

If you downloaded the video off of WinMx, it's most likely a DivX .avi file, which needs to be converted to mpeg-1 or mpeg-2 if you want to play it in a dvd player. Download TMPGenc from this site and read the newbie guides on how to make a VCD, it's really pretty easy. All burners can burn VCD's so long as your burner software has that option. If not, you can always download VCD Easy from this site, which creates an image of the VCD that can be burned with any CD software that can open .bin /.cue image files. Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply guys! I'll try and give it a shot. I don't think the one I copied is in Divx format, but I'm not sure. Is there a better site for downloading movies other than WinMx?
