gimp is pretty good, i don't know about auto tools, but you should be able to adjust what you need.

If you have Microsoft Office 2003 or later, then you already have Microsoft Office Picture Manager, which in the 2007 version anyway has Auto Correct and some manual adjustments as well. It's probably not considered prefessional caliber, but it's quick and easy so try it out to see if it meets your needs. It's in the Start Menu > Mircosoft Office > Microsoft Office Tools.

I recommend Gimp too. It's loaded with good stuff. Another one is Picasa.

I highly recommend FastStone Image Viewer at www.Faststone.org
It is fantastic and has always been free with no spyware, etc.

Recommending GIMP to someone who's never used any photo editing software is like handing a Blackberry to a caveman.

Agreed.Recommending GIMP to someone who's never used any photo editing software is like handing a Blackberry to a caveman.
Or even if you have used photo software, it feels like you have a hand tied behind your back.
And your "good hand" is broken and missing a few fingers.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

If you want to try something with a pizazz, try the free version of PHOTOFILTRE (the spelling is not an error).
 http://photofiltre.free.fr/

I use this for doing photo masks.
There are additional filters, written by users, to further enhance the editing option.

Google's Picasa (picasa.google.com) is nice photo organizer with basic edit functions.

Very useful for managing a collection.
