  1. Hi Gents

My writing speed is down to 7X from 16X
The only way I can get it back is by a clean reinstall of XP with sp1. If I install sp2 or sp3, the speed is decreased. I do notice that the writer buffer is not keeping up when this decrease occurs.
I don't think its going into PIO mode, as the speed doesn't totally choke.

This is what I have done so far.....

    Clean XP install
added sp1 everything fine at 16X
added sp3 speed choked to 8X and hardware buffer can't keep up
    Check DMA (DMA mode 4)
    Reinstalled IDE driver
    Reinstalled USB driver
    Reinstalled VGA driver
    Installed new IDE cable
    Installed new Hard drive
    Switched Ram
Tried 2 DVD writers (both were working) LG and Pioneer
Master HD on one channel, Writer on the other channel
    Cleaned the heat sinks
    New power supply

    My system is:

    P4 2.8ghz ECS 661fx-m motherb SIS chipset 1 gig ram 160 hd
    Pioneer DVR-116D v1.09 writer
    Imgburn 2500
I only use Verbatim and Tayo (both did the same)

Is there any hope for me!
    Thanks in advance

Have you tried deleting upper and lower filters described at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461 by copying and pasting that url into browser? For some reason an error message is given when the url is simply clicked. If that doesn't work you might try clean install of Windows with SP3 slip streamed into the install CD. This allows clean install of Windows with SP3 already installed and eliminates need to install SP3 after installing Windows. nLite is a free download from http://www.nliteos.com/download.html, and SP3 may be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=5b33b5a8-5e76-401f-be08-1e...displaylang=en.

  3. Thanks for the reply bevills. I already swapped motherboards and cured the issue. Wish I would have tried your idea first.
The motherboard I swapped has a via chipset instead of sis. I'm still not really sure of the underlying problem.....but its fixed.

    Thanks

    Can you help?

I have a MSI DVD DH22A9P Atapi Burner and the problem I have is that when I want to burn a DVD the computer crashes. When starts cacheing the files then crashes.

This problem does not happen when writing CD-s.

How can I remove via drivers and use native windows drivers? Or what is your advice?

Check the event viewer, you can see it by right clicking my computer and choosing manage, then select event viewer and system.
