Hi, I wanted to back up my blu ray films and wondered whether I could simply run an HDMI from my blu ray player into my laptop? Or, since my laptop doesn't have a blu ray drive would i need an external blu ray player or to fit an internal one?
Thanks

just saving them on my harddrive was the plan or putting them on bd-r's
thanks -
The most reliable way would be to rip the bluray to your hd, then reburn it to bd-r. You would need a bd burner for your PC, a program to decode the original blu-ray (like anyDVD), and a program to burn the results to bd-r (like imgburn). If you wanted to shrink your originals to fit on less expensive bd-25s (assuming this is necessary), then an additional program like bdrebuilder would be needed as well.

You should be aware that if you need to compress the movies to fit a 25gb blu ray disk, you'll be running your cpu at full speed for many hours, overnight is not uncommon, depending on the speed of the computer. This continuous load on a laptop might cause overheating.
Desktops are more commonly used for this task.
