  1. I have a Sony PMW-EX1R videocamera.
I have a problem with some mp4 video files.
I copied them from my SxS card to my Pc's hard drive.
The problem is that i can't open these files with ANY program.I can't edit or play these files.
I am a professional user and i haven't seen this before.

The ONLY program who can play this files is "Avidemux", but still, i can't hear sound, just the image!
I can send you a video sample if you want to check it.

Please help me find what's happening, and solve this problem.

  3. vlc, smplayer, mpchc all play xdcam fine . It's just mpeg2 in mp4 container

In order to get WMP to play it, you need to install a mp4 splitter and mpeg2 decoder (e.g. ffdshow , with mpeg2 enabled in the configuration)

Most NLE's support xdcam (e.g. premiere pro, vegas pro) . But you need to rewrap to MOV if you are a MAC user with FCP

  4. no, it is not the codec, i have a really serious problem quys...
i've tried all this codec things.
I have many videos that i rec them by the same way.
this is the only time that the videos doesn't play.
i think that the SMI file is broken (It is in the same folder as the video is).

  5. Do you mean the files are corrupted ? That doesn't make sense if avidemux can open them. Did you try the other programs listed?

Some players are directshow based - this could mean you have directshow filter issues. The other players (e.g. vlc, smplayer even avidemux) are not directshow based (don't rely on system installed codecs and splitters) - so if they work ok in those, it really suggests a configuration problem

Does your NLE have problems opening them ?

Upload a small sample to mediafire.com or directly here if <30MB
