Does SuperAntiSpyware provide safe protection if no Antivirus program is running, for example AVG or Avira?
Every antivirus program I've tried interferes with programs or hardware and generally slows down my computer.

I would not just rely on an antispyware program alone. I would use superantispyware or malwarebytes in conjunction with an antivirus. What other a/v's have you tried besides AVG and Avira?

I like avast myself. If you can't find a free one that you like then I'd suggest looking at the trial versions of some payware antivirus.

all 3 av's mentioned work just fine..i use the avira free and it does the job...i also have good marks for the free avast also..with either of these you won't really need superAS or MalwareB...i havent used and spyware stopper(running in the background) software ever and i never get those little problems that so many seem to get...i guess i'm lucky or, i just dont go to those websites that like to plant those things in your temp files

Actually it's not a bad idea to purchase the resident blocking features of SuperAntiSpyware or Malwarebytes. I've seen their resident blockers stop things that antivirus softwares let through.
And both are reasonably priced with free lifetime updates. Worth it if you ask me. Use a combination of SASpro or Malwarebytes pro and a good free antivirus and you shouldn't have any problems.

I personally have SASpro with Avast free on my main machine.

wulf what is the specs on the computer that is slowing down when you install your av products?

AVG - the current version reboots my computer when I try to open TMT3.
Avira - conflicts with my printer driver HP4350-after printing one page my resources are consumed requiring a reboot.
Avast - same problem as Avira plus conflicts with my newsreader.
Un-installing the antivirus software corrects these problems.

There is something really wrong then if you have an i7 cpu and you're having those problems. I've just got a lowly dual core amd and use both avast free and sas pro at the same time.

Not sure where the problem would be though.

Maybe you already have a virus.

I'd suggest a scan with malwarebytes and superantispyware in safe mode.

BTW: you MUST uninstall the previous antivirus to get a clean install of the other one, try Ccleaner to ensure the crap is gone.

I'm switching all of my machines to Avast 5.0, it's much cleaner in operation - and doesn't block the internet like AVG. Avira never worked for me.

Yes, and get the Pro version for $20 or whatever it is.
There really are no more viruses out there -- it's all variations of malware now.

I installed the Microsoft program and that seems to be working. I am using the pay lifetime version of SuperAntispyware($20.00) I did go and install a new hard drive and on that drive AVG and TMT3 co-exist normally,so there is something on my C drive causing this antivirus program problem I'm having. I'm going to keep using my existing C drive, just too much trouble to install everything on a new drive at this point. Copying the existing drive would copy the problem. I would need to format and re-install everything. All seems normal other than the antivirus program problem.

Thanks for all the good advice on this problem.
