So I think I've got the capturing and encoding of "real" people down, so now I'm moving on to my Battle of the Planets and Robotech collection (yes I am a huge geek - but my GF (girlfriend not grandfather) doesn't mind) Anyways, anyone recommend kickass settings to get these to xVCD? No re-encoding tips please. Thanks!

What capture card and what software are you using? What is the original format? VHS? DVD? VCD? I don't know much about capturing but i'm ready to throw in my 2 cents.

I'm an idiot! I have the ATI VIVO and I use the MMC7.5 that comes with it. I capture direct to mpeg-1 using 2.5-2.77mb/s (for satellite captures) My problem is that for a good capture they take up too much space--nature of the cartoon where colors are always changing i guess. Thought maybe someone knew what settings work best (It's funny I normally give more information--must have been on drugs i guess )

  4. I found that I got better quality for cartoons when "Visual Masking" is turned off in MMC (Make a custom profile and disable visual masking).
