  1. After going out and buying a new DVD player and upgrading my "MyDVD" to 3.0 so the software could burn the DVD, I realized one thing

NERO IS CRAP FOR BURNING DVD'S

The DVD I burned with MyDVD plays in both my new player and my Pioneer 711 perfectly. Only make sure that there is more than 4gb on the DVD for the pioneer 711

  2. LOL I had to laugh, Nero works fine, Nero does not author the DVD like My DVD 3.0 does, Nero burns. For that you must have you VIDEO_TS directory allready on the hardrive with ifo, bup and vob files and burn the DVD as UDF / ISO and they work fine.

Does not work fine for me either. If I rip the entire DVD5 with Smartripper and try to burn it back to DVDr with Nero it will play every time on my computer using WinDVD ( a great program for watching DVDs but useless for trying to see of you have produced a compliant DVD - I reckon the next version will play text files as video) but will never play on my Diva 88. If however I re-author the disc just using Maestro with the m2v and ac3 de-muxed in Smartripper with my own chapter points it plays every time in my Diva 88. I get the same problem with the VOB software that came with the A03.

  4. RJ,

as you noted the VOB software MyDVD is a authoring program requiring mpeg 2 files to convert to the necessary file structure present on a DVD discs, The Prassi software ( PRIM0 DVD v 2.0 ) will check to see thathe VIDEO_TS folder works before a burn as long as it checked under Option -- DATA DISC section. you should try that before you burn anything and try on a DVD-RW to make sure before final burn.

  5. I've tried burning DVDs as per http://mpucoder.kewlhair.com/Derrow/nero.html and the discs never play in a standalone. Program works great for everything else I do. Prassi works wonderfully.

I have heard from many sources that PRIMO DVD is a good program for validating DVDr VIDEO_TS folders before burning, unfortunately the European version of the AO3 does not come bundled with this software. I would love to be able to experiment with DVD-RW but m the Arcam will not recognise them. The nearest I have found to a computer player that will only play valid streams is the Margi DVD to Go hardware PC Card. I would like to hear if anyone knows of a software player that is similarly fussy about compliant DVDs.
I think there are an awful lot of people out there trying to get Nero and other burning packages to work properly with DVD. I have made too many coasters with this program now and I stick to the re-authoring, image creation and burning in Maestro it really does not take that long to put in simple 5 minute chapter points. if anyone knows the format of the Import chapter file for Maestro that would be handy.

Where in this thread has anyone stated that it was? I believe we were all talking about burning our title sets back via Nero.

I added a note about the nero problems in the nero dvd guide, even though it worked great for me burning on dvd+rw and it worked on a pioneer and a sony player.

Is there a demo available for veritas prassi primodvd? and are there any other dvd burning only tools available that burn 100% correct?

    Baldrick,

I use HP RecordNow with my Philips DVD+RW 208 drive on WinXP Pro and works perfectly.

  11. I hate to say it, but Nero does suck for DVD Video. I have always used Nero for VCD (with menus) and SVCD (no menus) without any trouble, but I cannot get Nero to burn a compliant DVD.

Last night I switched to Gear DVD Pro 6, and everything worked perfectly.
QPS DVD Writer - Philips DVD 711 player.

If anyone has used Nero to make a standalone player compliant DVD, please post ALL of the settings you had checked and what player it worked with.

    Thanks!

  12. Okay, well here goes ...

    Nero 5.5.6.4

    Pioneer DVR-A03
    One DVD-RW

    DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO)
In the ISO tab Nero (God knows why ) has the following options set by default
File Length - ISO Level 2
Further down a box titled Relax ISO restrictions with two check boxes both checked.

If any of these options are set you will see at the bottom of the dialog
"This DVD is possibly not readable under DOS/Windows 3.1x
For full compatibility choose ISO Level 1, ISO 9660 character set and no relaxed ISO restrictions".

    Choose ISO Level 1
    ISO 9660
    Uncheck EVERYTHING else ...

Can I just say, like WOW, the quality, stunning

  14. I have used Nero 5.5.5.1, Ulead DVd Movie Factory, Spruce Up and Primo DVD. so far so good. Not sure why some have troubles with Nero though. I have burned DVD compliant DVD-R and DVD-RW so far. I do wish however that Nero would let you know if you VIDEO_TS folder is okay before the burn like Primo does.

As for my Nero settings, I have it set to UDF / ISO , ISO Level 2, ISO 9600 character set, and everthing else unchecked.

I have authored a dvd to my HD with Spruce up, (to make sure I had all the correct files vob/ifo/bup etc..) and burned with both Nero 5.5.7.2 and Prassi Primo DVD.

The Nero disk worked in my standalone (Cyberhome) DVD player but not in my PS2
The Primo disk work in both no probs,

I used cheap (£1.99) princo general DVD-R media

You must upgrade Nero to 5.578 before it will work in your PS2
