I like AVStoDVD as a free solution - high quality encoder, lots of options, basic menus facilities. ConvertXtoDVD is fast, does a reasonable job and handles most formats.

Don't know what you are asking for in question 2. I assume you mean an authoring tool, but that will only do DVDs. Perhaps if you could be clearer in what you are trying to do ?

    Hi pegasus,
thanks for the reply.as for the question 2, what actually i want is a DVD burner software that i can create a custom menu.it something like when we play a DVD,menu will appear & we can scroll down to the option e.g PLAY,SETUP,CHAPTERS etc..
I need something that i can link the subtitle to the videos.
Another thing that i wanna know, some software when i convert to DVD,the output format is different from others.some with VOB,others will be VOB VOT,some mpegs but all are DVD's.confusing...

DVDs only use VOBs, nothing else. The video is encoded using Mpeg-2 compression, but the container is VOB. The other files are IFO files - text files that contain details about the structure of the DVD, and BUP files, which are backup copies of the IFO files.

If you want an authoring tool that does subtitles and multiple audio tracks etc then you are looking at something a bit beyond the one-click-wonder crowd. I use DVD Lab Pro, which has a reasonable learning curve, and does not convert your videos for you.
