I have video that was, once upon a time, recorded on P2 (at least, I think it was). I *believe* the video was converted into standard definition using some sort of Mac software (presumably FCP). The video was delivered to me in a .mov wrapper. This is where my adventures begin.
The .mov files throw wrong type/invalid errors in both FCP 7.0.2 and Premiere CS5 when I try to import them. When I rename the files to have a .dv extension, the files import and play in various players. HOWEVER, under the .dv extension, only the first few frames display; everything after that is a multicolored garbled mess with no audio except for a short burst of noise every few seconds.
From the movie inspector, it would appear the data rate and data size are detected incorrectly. I think this is what is causing the problems with playback. For what it's worth DV/DVCPRO is what QT's movie inspector shows. The data rate shown is 57.54 mbits/sec.
Does anyone have any idea as to what I am doing incorrectly? It's difficult to research the problem without having a firmer handle on the proper file type/codec.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I have access to Mac/FCP at my University. My primary machine is a Windows/Premiere setup and that's virtually all of my experience. I'm not too familiar with FCP.
Would the version of FCP have anything to do with it? The .mov files (without modification) would open on my prior University's Mac/FCP stations (I think they had FCP 7.0.3). I started at a new Uni this semester.
Mediainfo shows:
Format: MPEG-4
Format Profile: Quicktime
Codec ID: qt
Filesize: 20.8 GiB
And no, I don't have access to the original footage nor the person who sent me the files. That was the first course of action I tried. This forum is more or less a last resort.
