  1. I'm getting a DVD burner soon, and have started to research how to put regular mpeg-1 and mpeg-2 files on the DVD *without* authoring it with menus and all that other fancy stuff. There is a method posted here using Nero, making two folders and splitting the mpeg file into audio and video. However, almost always when splitting a file, the audio and video files have different lenghts, and will not play in sync. So, I don't want to split the mpeg file, but burn it as one stream. I found some information about this that I have not seen before. I would like to get any information available on making a DVD-General with video files that will play in a DVD player.

The DVD Forum has defined the specification for video recording, which covers a range of applications including video camcorders, home recording and recording video on PCs. Basic features comprise Record, Playback, Delete and Edit. Addition of navigation data and the use of video objects (VOB) are also included.

Video files are labelled VR_MOVIE.VRO and are similar to VOB files and are contained in a DVD_RTAV directory.

  3. What files does the player need? What are the requirements?

  4. Very good information!

This is all taken from a commercialy made DVD. There should also be a more simpler structure for home recorded DVD's (part of the DVD standard), that should be easy to replicate. It is used when recording live to a DVD, like a DVD recorder.
