i think the people of the world should demand 2 things from their Hollywood Movies.
1. required MP4 version included on the disk, yes some do that now, but it should be legislated
2. the ability to move the entire movie to HDD-based home media/entertainment devices, with complete menu functionality, including previews, and all regular DVD functionality
The File structure should be required to be modified so that the information within the Video-TS and IFO files makes the DVD playable in its entirety from any HDD, by clicking on a new "Play" file, which exists as a DVD file in a folder on top of the VIDEO_TS Folder, attached to a JPEG image of the movie cover, so that when you play the DVD from your Home Entertainment Device, it launches by clicking on the Movie Icon
That is to say, the people should demand that Hollywood support copying of the contents of the DVD to all Home HDD devices and Portable Devices of the End User / Purchaser.
and the people of America and the world should Boycott Hollywood DVD's and in the Theater for a period of 1 year, or 2 years, or until Hollywood complies with our demands, and stops treating us all like delinquent criminals

well, to state a few facts, Hollywood is behind all current US legislation, and the tyrranical attacks on the end users and the imposition of their oppressive, slanderous, and empirical will upon the average law-biding citizen
and they are working frantically to impose those same laws in every country around the world
if they had their way, every country on the planet would be suffering as badly as america is
but hollywood doesnt really have any political pull in the governments of any other countries except america, so its safe to say that Hollywood isnt going anywhere else but america
And most of the rest of the planet doesnt really even care much for Hollywood, as 80% of it revolves around americans, american culture, american habits, and american social conduct and interactions.
that stated, Hollywood needs the american people, its really all Hollywood has, the same people they are oppressing and exploiting and abusing and accusing, and calling criminals
so, the only real solution to the problem is for the American people to Boycott theaters and DVD's in stores and online stores, until Hollywood changes their attitude and adjusts tehir videos and policies for the average honest and hard-working person who is up on current trends and technology and wants a Home Entertainment System with Full DVD functionality -
if downloading or sharing a movie file is a criminal act, just punish the criminal, you dont make file sharing or downloading any file illegal..
thats like trying to enforce a no J-walking policy by banning pedestrians from streets and sidewalks.
likewise, if copying a DVD and selling them or distributing them is illegal, punish the criminal, dont make it illegal and impossible for everyone on the planet to use a home entertainment device to enjoy hte full beauty of the movie they've purchased, including trailers and other promotions
you are not only shooting yourself in the foot, but just shooting everyone else in their foot too just because you like shooting people in their feetLast edited by 1337assassin; 15th Oct 2010 at 21:21.

You don't have to educate me on how entreched "Hollywood" is in California and national Democrat politics. Like the aerospace, agriculture and fishing industries, labor policy is moving all the key industry out of state. Silicon Valley won't hire "workers" here, only big brain talent. "Hollywood" has seen much of TV series production move to Canada or other US states.
But much of the key creative talent remains on the coast even if no longer the business volume. Will tax policy finally force the remaining "talent" out. Will they land in Tarentino Texas or Brazil, India, Korea or even Singapore?
80% of the world still consumes Americana. The French are most enthusiastic. What do you want?
Have you ever produced content yourself?Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Hollywood says "we think we will use Blu-ray" and the world uses blu-ray
Hollywood says "we will do this, and we will do that", and their whims create criminals out of everyone and make everyone punishable, without ever having passed any laws
Hollywood is like a Government within a government, completely autonomous and absolute in their decisions which effect every personal right and life in America
Without ever having any legislation, they create a system of laws which all people are subjugated to, completely doing away with our democracy, as if we are living in a Facist totalitarian nation, rather than one where the people have a say in what affects their lives and lands them in prison -

well, thats the funny part, its your money they are running off with... they have enslaved you and made tool out of you under the guise of being a good citizen, then when they have squeezed blood from the stone, they skip out with "their" money, and none of that returns to your system, as a good citizen is expected to do
they may be running away from financial and tax policies, but you are their bread-winning cash cow. and they wont abandon you, the american zealot. (not you exactly, but in general)
you are their source of income, and their entire market.. regardless of they skip out of town to film or produce or live or create content for you, they are tied directly to them
you follow their self-made laws, which make you miserable and exploit you to the maximum level just short of causing you to go postal or creating a nation-wide Anarchy, and in return they take your money and skip out of town to save costs and dodge taxes that should go back to improving your quality of life somehow, only to return when they need more money from you, for their amazing "content"
i would actually prefer to watch and listen to independent artists who offer content for free really
even if it looks like that film made in "Gentleman Bronco"
yes, i make content, as an independent film maker, script-writer, scene-builder, set and prop creator, cameraman, audio man, director, producer, editor, and publisher
but i would never create content which you couldnt use in your home entertainment device, nor call you a criminal dirtbag -
well, i think a world wide boycott could spread easily though the internet if enough community members were involved and if it were organized clearly as to the demands we require to be met
they will beg, grovel, and plead, and offer to make all content available on VHS or free download, when their 100 million dollar film grosses 50 dollars at the box office -

It's not just Hollywood. All big corporations are busy buying politicians, lobbying, even writing the laws that our government officials simply sign off on. Corporations are evolving to take the place of royalty and the ruling class. It won't stop until the next revolution comes.
-
Preach it comrades! Let this be the day when we, the movie-loving proletariat, take a stand against those bourgeois-pig studios, not because they produce crappy films for low-IQ audiences, but because they won’t offer free conversions to media files that can play on the little portable devices that help us zone out from the real world around us.
Yes, and let us rise against those capitalistic corporations that manufacture all the things that make our lives more convenient and enjoyable (like little portable devices that help us zone out from the real world around us). Though the corporations don’t hold guns to our heads to make us buy their products, they’re still evil because corporations reek of paternalism, and we all have our daddy issues.
Yes, and as we type away in these forums on cursed computer technology that arose from free enterprise, let us use all caps in one voice as we sound forth our battle cry:
Shirkers of the world unite! -
Lol!!!
I have to go with jagabo on this one...
What is it ?
The U.S. has been in a war or "police state" on the average of once every 10 years for the last 200 years, and two major wars on our own soil in the last 200 hundred years.....
And we have basically been at and involved in a war for the last 20 years on a steady basis.....
Hopefully the sleeping "sheep" are beginning to finally awaken......
A revolution is so beyond due!!!
We need to get these fat cat's out of power.
viva la revolution

For most people the $$$ outflow has shifted from DVD/Blu-Ray to Cable/Sat/Netflix services. Cinema ticket sales aren't growing.
People are renting rather than buying content. Power is shifting to electronic distribution. Comcast is buying NBC/Universal. Apple, Amazon and Google are moving in. Netflix/Hulu Plus are moving to pay per view. I think the evil empire "Hollywood" is morphing into a new cast of characters.Last edited by edDV; 16th Oct 2010 at 06:52.

Well, there are some good points above, today i've upgraded to an 18 TB system, 1 internal and multiple-HDD USB cradles for the other 8 2TB drives, and I have external Sata ports on my PC for file transfer... because these bluray DVD's are ridiculously large, 25GB a piece, and its just going to be getting bigger
I always thought it would be best to keep the video at the same quality, and instead put in "Choose Your Own Adventure" capabilities with the extra space, in effect holding 8 more movies on the BluRay disk, which are really just alternate sequences of he same movie, with 8 times the run-time, as most all movies made have at tleast that much usable footage anyway
i thought it could revolutionize the way videos were made, not just make the same movie 8 times bigger,
in all honesty, the Blu Ray DVD isnt all that much better in image quality than a dvd9 anyway, on an averagely big flat panel, i really dont see what all the fuss is about, all they have really done is improve the menus and stream selections.. oooo...not that impressive or useful IMO
Choose you own adventures in DVD9 quality on blu ray disks would be worth each and every penny, as you would never see it the same way twice, there are literally hundreds or thousands of possible movie combinations
IMO, hollywood movies are boring, and renting is DEFINITELY the way to go, and I would be doing the same except that I have a large amount of childrens movies, cartoons, Tom & Jerry, Looney Toons, Disney, Pixar, etc, as well as all the superhero movies from marvel, hasbro, etc, and all the epic war movies and historical-based movies like dances with wolves, 300, gladiator, troy, brave heart, the patriot, etc, and an extrmely large amount of BBC specials like planet earth, walking with dinosaurs, space, blue planet, etc etc, as well as old series like all the original Sherlock Homes etc.. and also a large amount of how-to videos, such as cooking, Martial Arts, yoga, Pilates, art classes, mechanical stuff, a large number of educational tutorials and podcasts from itunes and youtube and other how-to hobby, craft, skill, and technique sites, etc etc etc etc etc
and all of those get watched all the time, and are very useful, and kids need them, and I need them, and they are things you enjoy watching over and over, which your average hollywood movie isnt.
90% of hollywood movies i can really only watch once, they were great, but i never want to see them again, for sure.
and we are all capitalist around here, and making money is what america does, but there is a difference between making money through legitimate channels and simply using corrupt means to impose your will and personal desires over an entire nation of people
90% of american companies know that, and always have. 99% of all internet-based companies, and all of the media sector simply doesnt get any of that.. instead they do whatever they see fit, as they see fit, without regards to our rights, violating the rights of others, making them unhappy, inconvenienced, slandering and accusing them, and abusing every right imaginable in the name of scraping in extra bucks
its the perfect american business model taken and flipped around, turned upside down, flipped inside out, completely backwards and done exactly the opposite of what ethics and practices have built america, and i fully expect it to be the end of america, either directly or indirectly
the point is, everyone has different tastes and needs, some people think watching Hollywood "R movies" over and over is interesting, whatever, who cares, but the main thing is we all have what we want to watch and keep and purchase, and own and store for frequent viewing, and that should be an integral part of the system of procuring Movies for yourself, fully supported for Home Media Entertainment devices.
and the MP4 should be mandatory, simply because 25 GB is ridiculous when everyone wants their movies in their portable devices as well, so u should get a free mp4 copy included
honestly if they did those two things, there would really be no reason to use any software on the internet for altering anything.Last edited by 1337assassin; 16th Oct 2010 at 19:11.

I don't understand what you are doing and why?
A well produced Blu-Ray disc is way higher quality vs. DVD. If by DVD-9 you mean a m2ts h.264 recompression of the original Blu-Ray, you are cutting quality significantly. The time spent doing this is a waste. On your next higher quality HDTV you will notice a difference.
Second, why do you want to collect movies? They will always be available in the latest formats. How many movies do you really watch twice? I have a small collection. The way I see it, interesting but disposable TV broadcasts from the most obscure sources are more collectable.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

well, i wont be buying anything duplicate on Blu-Ray, except mabe starwars or something
i also dont think most movies are worth watching twice, with the exception of movies children watch, those are typically viewed over and over.
as well as anything educational, things like Discovery, National Geographic, BBC, etc, those have a high use and are good when you want to limit what your child is watching by limiting the only options to nature shows or something
and then theres the learning courses, things you need to look over from time to time during projects, welding, construction, landscaping, cooking, and other techniques, you need those on demand as well,
including podcasts that have an educational value, or like ones about surfing or snowboarding, those are nice to have at TV control with the rest of your collection, and along with all of your music collection.
and exercise videos u need on demand, or you will never use them
the quality is not HDTV, its DVD9 or MP4, and even podcast quality, but the point is, its all there on your TV, no Computer loading required, just at the touch of a button, on 18 TB of disk space, nothing to mount, no wait time for loading (depending on the one u get), everything ready to go..
and i dont know about you guys, but i think everyone needs this set up, and i think its the set up of the future, transfer media from your PC via external Sata ports, and load them in the cradle, different 2TB HDD for different types of media or categories, you can literally connect 16 external 2TB HDDs none of which need loading, or anything other than a quick NTFS format
and that is where all my media goes and will go
and I expect Hollywood to be on board, by providing a Blu-Ray and any other Digital format which is built for use in these systems, without having to crack useless copyright protections, or have things not function fully and appropriately off of the disk
and making us feel like criminal for using our own media, in our own systems..
hence a world-wide boycott is needed -
I'm not getting most of that. People get what they want to get.
Mp4 at what codec format and bit rate? The Blu-Rays are offering the best current quality within Blu-Ray media bit rate and capacity constraints. I think they are optimizing for future proofing. NonBlu-Ray "MP4" formats are in a total state of flux. Every device wants a short term codec. What do you suggest "Hollywood" should have on the disc? Apple iPod? That didn't exist when the Blu-Ray standard was being established.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

i expect it to work at full Blu-Ray quality, 25 GB with all menus, previews, warnings etc, exactly as if the disk were inserted
and I want it made to be transferred off disk to our own media devices
honestly, who on the planet is going to transfer a 25GB Blu-ray movie over the internet, there isnt a movie worth all of that
and i expect that the file structure should come with a JPEG image of the DVD cover art as well, for cataloging and easy view.
and the name of the top folder should be the name of the movie, for easy categorizing and cataloging -
i mean that they should be made specifically for us to take them to our Home Entertainment Devices, made especially for end users to take them off disk and use them in our alphabetized Media Devices, without having to go through a covert decryption process, and without having to re-author the entire movie
and i want it to include Thumbnails and a properly named Top Folder
instead, hollywood would rather we all live our lives in a hazy grey-area, so they can call us criminals when and as they see fitLast edited by 1337assassin; 16th Oct 2010 at 19:48.

there could then be a new device created which accepts a blu-ray movie disk, and transfers it directly to HDD storage, and catalogs it in the view without ever having to even need to use a computer
-
The future is streaming. There will eventually be affordable (like your current cable/sat TV bill?) services where every movie and TV show ever made can be viewed any time you want on any device you want. Different services will compete based on their search, browsing, cross-referencing, presentation, etc. abilities. Few people will bother "collecting" movies because these services will be so valuable. This will replace broadcast and cable TV because there will be "broadcast" streams to spoon feed people when they don't want to bother searching.
-
even those services are going to need to have 32 TB of storage, time is money, and as anyone who has been around long enough knows, there is simply no time to do things twice. It takes a good bit of time to browse through a myriad of information and various presentations and styles, to find something you like, and once you've found them, the intelligent and fore-thoughtful individual will keep it, catalog it, file it away in a well-organized file structure, for later use.
people only dont do that if space is an issue, as 32-TB systems are already in place, that line of reasoning can be done away with.
things that are useful now can and should be kept filed away in storage, just like a book in a library
thats like having to browse the library of congress each and every time you want to look at something in the most useful and best book that it took you weeks to find
i dont think streaming will take the place of anything but one-hit hollywood wonders
for people who spend their days vegetating over mindless scintillating entertainment, or even porn, yes, stream it right into their brain, mainlining their addictive drug
for people who use the internet for learning, study, education, information-gathering, cataloging, cross-referencing, and building a profound and working knowledge of the world around them, there is nothing but the digital home consortium of literary and encyclopedic knowledge that one spends a lifetime accumulating
if you live your life streaming everything, you havent really accumulated anything in your life, and your life is on the road to complete failure
educated people know that collecting valuable resources is fundamental and paramount to furthering a life's work of learning and knowing.
there is no walking library, save you have an endemic memory and spend every day in the library
for other people, they build libraries in their homes, vast collections of works which define them as an individual, and testify as to the life they've lived and what they have accomplished
and the wise and prudent know that the key to life is knowing what to hold, knowing what to fold, knowing what to throw away, and knowing what to keep.. there is an endless slew of stuff out there, and it is each person's responsibility to themselves, their family, and their posterity, to gather and collect the things which are most useful to their ideal life, learning, growth, and welfare
today we not only have books, we have movies to show us how to do things visually, we have enormously improved study and information gathering and assimilation technologies at our fingertips
and its not a 'virtual library'. its a real library.. a digital library, and it, like all other libraries and vaults of information, is entirely composed of what you choose to put in it, for yourself and your family
this includes things from online college courses, school tutorials, baby and childhood learning and education, health and longevity, well-being and welfare, metal health, and all the things vital to living a significant and exceptional life
i dont stream anything.. browse and filter, yes, keep, discard, collect, preview, value, repulse and retain etc.. stream.. no.. im not a mindless vegetable sponge
and yes, that includes entertainment as well.. i like watching starwars over and over, and indiana jones, and Marvel movies, and Pixar movies, and Nature Shows
and this is me, and this is my right, to catalog and store things as I see fit, how, when, and where I see fit
ESPECIALLY if i'm paying top dollar for themLast edited by 1337assassin; 16th Oct 2010 at 20:24.
-
really, its like paying for an online education degree, and not getting to keep any of the material for yourself. and instead, having to keep a copy of your books and study material on Microfiche, which you can look at if you happen to have a Microfiche viewer, and exactly in no other way are you allowed to view it
-
-
hmm, i just spent half an hour explaining why i do watch things over and over
thats great.. you can hand your little favorites folder over to your children when you die
impressive legacy
my life, on the other hand, will not be reduced to a "favorites" menu.. that I can "twitter" about to feed my narcissism and megalomania
my information comes from a variety of sources, some i converted digitally myself, and others it took me weeks, months, or years to find, dig up, accumulate, and organize.
the ONLY THING streaming will be useful for, is as an internet browser and downloading service, and exactly nothing else -
streaming will only be good for things you look at once, one time.. like the vast majority of sitcoms, television dramas, and holllywood action and degenerate movies, which really nobody can watch more than once..
most of those things are physiologically impossible to watch two times
and, again, for the vegetable sponges, of which I am not.
