After you rip a DVD video with DVDShrink or DVDDecrypter, how can you convert it into a file that can be edited with video editing software then burned to a DVD? I have ripped and re authored several movies getting rid of extras etc to get a good quality reproduction with success.

Depends on your editing software. Most will import mpg files, so you can use VOB2MPG to extract the content to mpg format (no re-encoding) and go from there. If you don't need fancy effects, editing with Womble Mpeg Video Wizard or similar will allow for native mpeg editing with minimal re-encoding. Using Vegas or Premiere will usually result in having to re-encode the entire video.

What is your goal? What do you want to edit? Do you want to strip extras or trailers? Do you want to cut parts out of videostreams, get rid of unwanted audio or subtitles?
Whatever you do quality won't get better than the original...only if you don't reencode or transcode quality will persist.
Do you propably want to get down to a DVD5 from an DL?

My goal is to edit the main video/audio stream. I would like to be able to cut out scenes and or cut out fowl language. In other words, make an “R” movie “G”. Sort of like they used to edit movies so they could shown on TV. I know that I can use DVD Shrink to remove menus, trailers and extras. I’ve been doing that ok. I would just like to edit the main movie. Also, I will be burning to DVD5s so I don't want a lot of compression.

Thanks! I'll try VOB2MPG. I'm mainly doing this for fun so I try to use as much freeware is I can. After I Edit the MPG does it need to be recoded to be burned to a DVD5? Will a 90min movie still fit on a DVD5 disc? Yes, I am a novice at this.

For what you are doing, Womble is probably the best option. It can read the mpeg files, edit with minimal re-encoding, and output a DVD format ready for burning.
Will a 90 minute video fit on a DVD 5 - maybe - depends on the movie and how it has been encoded. If you get the latest version of Womble (version 5) then it uses Mainconcept for encoding and should be able to re-encode to fit if necessary.
I don't understand why you have such and issue with what chickens and ducks have to say though.Read my blog here.
