I have these asian vcds that I'm trying to transfer to dvds. When you play these vcds in stereo mode, you hear 2 different languages at the same time. You have to choose R or L to listen to one language. When I play these vcds in a dvd player, I can select the audio. The DVD player allows me to choose L or R with the audio select button.

However, my firsted authored DVD didn't work out the way I thought it would. I thought my dvd player would allow the same type of selection, but instead, there is no option. Both languages are going simultaeneously. Sliding the speaker balance or unplugging one of the cables to the L or R speaker doesn't completely work because though one language is now dominant, you can still hear the other language faintly.

So I guess I need advice on how to author a dvd (from VCD source w/ dual audio) that has switchable audio. If that's not possible, then how do I get rid of one of the audio during the ripping phase? I use Isobuster and rip out the mpeg using "Extract but filter only M2F2 Mpeg frames."

    Thank you!

I don't believe you can do it during the ripping phase, especially not with ISOBuster.

The video only has a single audio track, with different languages in each channel. You have to rip the video and audio out of the dat files, demux the audio, load it into an audio editor (audacity is free and will do the job), copy the side you want to keep over the side you don't want, save the new audio, and author it, with the original video, into a new disc.

ISOBuster will give you an mpg file. Load this into AVI Demux, then click on Audio->Save and save the audio to a new file. Remember to put an extension on the file name - in this case, .mp2.

Using the latest beta of Audacity with ffmpeg libraries installed, load up the audio file you just created. Work out which channel has the audio you need, and copy that channel over the other channel so you have a two channel mono audio track. Save this as a new .mp2 file and use this when authoring.
