i'm trying to burn rat race. i used vdub for the audio and tmpgenc for encoding , and then tried to use nero to burn , but nero wants to reencode it . should i let it reecode or should just continue without reencoding it , if so will it cause any future playing proplems on my standalone dvd player .

If your DVD player will play XVCD (non-standard VCD), then you don't need to reencode. Nero is saying the file isn't 100% VCD compliant, which may or may not be ok, depending on your DVD player. Where VCD has to be a certain bitrate and resolution, XVCD can be higher.

dont use nero it is not very good
when you are asked to reencode there should be a box that says turn standard vcd compliance off or something like this .do that then burn as normal .then try in the dvd it should work fine -

Well other programs will probably do a better job than Nero, Nero can cause lip sync with no way of fixing it. However a program like TMPGenc has a lot more features.
As for speed, If it's taking you 4 hours with Nero, maybe there will be some improvement with TMPGenc, a simple conversion without changing colour etc is the fastest way, start adding filters to change colours or change the sound and that time can double.
I take it that its 4 hours of conversion of a 80 minuet movie, 700Mb file ?, well you do realize that your possessor type, speed, memory, hard drive type and speed will all influence this. Don't want to put you off by saying that's a long time, but maybe its good for the type of machine you have.
