    Hi There,
I’m converting some DVDs into MPG2 using Roxio 10 (Convert Video option. Rip DVD to hard drive and convert from there – takes minutes). These are to be stored on a FreeAgent Ext. HDD that I have connected to my PS3. and I’m very happy with the results of the video, audio, and the time taken to convert.
    My problem is:
Some of these MPG2s are over 4Gb. The HDD is Fat32, so I can’t get them on there.
I’ve tried to split the MPG2s with TMPGEnc, and the audio disappears.
I’ve tried demuxing (again with TMPEnc) and trying several different audio formats – no joy.
I’ve tried to output the individual chapters of the movie (again with Roxio) and again no audio.
I’ve tried a lengthy and convoluted process using MeGui, and I ended up with a BIGGER file size – and no audio.
My last pop was VOB2MPG – great video, no audio.
Any suggestions? I’m happy with the Video I’ve got, but is there a program where I can mux an PS3 compatible audio file onto my video?
Any other suggestions would be great. I’ve been at this for a while now.

    Thanks,

    Hersman.

What format si the audio ? The PS3 will happily play AC3 form these files, but not DTS. Also, if they are commercial discs then Roxio won't be able to rip them correctly because of the copy protection. You shoul drip with DVDFab HD Decrypter or run AnyDVD in the background behind Roxio.

After you have properly ripped the disc, you can use TSMuxer to convert the file to a suitable format, and use it's automatic splitting to get FAT32 sized chunks. No re-encoding will be done.

It is pretty straight forward to use and clearly laid out. The TSMuxer page has a long list of guides for using it in various ways as well.

Righto - I tried ts output - no audio. I tried mt2s output - no audio. Do I have to change any settings on the PS3? All the stuff I've saved off Freeview (via PlayTV) onto the FreeAgent is mt2s and that plays fine.

by the way - both mt2s and ts play fine on the PC. Gspot won't give me any info on the audio though.

g-spot is old and hasn't kept up with all the containers. Use MediaInfo (Tree view) to see what is going on.

Nope - it appears (for me anyway) that tsmuxer is exactly the same as the Roxio output - works fine as long as the movie is under 4gb, but anything I need to split loses the audio. I have proved this with multiple files, not just one. Darn.

I am currently trying (sigh) Roxio, then demux, then convert audio to mp3, then convert to AAC (using Itunes for chuff's sake) then sticking them both into sony vegas and outputting as an mpeg. Bet it doesn't work.

I can't see any reason why you are having these issues. You could try the Pandasoft converter to re-package the files and see if they play

Pandasoft reduced the files size (and I'm assuming the picture quality) greatly - from 5gb down to 220,000Kb

Something very odd going on with either the files, your system or your process. Pandasoft should not have re-encoded your files. I do not know what is happening at your end, but things are not as they should be. The best I can offer is that the originals did not rip correctly and still have either come copy protection, or damage from removal of the copy protection.
