I have an avi movie I want to burn in Toast 7. The movie plays fine in VLC. When I drag it to Toast 7, I select DVD-Video, and am able to star the process whereby I burn it to a DVD. But here's the bummer part. It encodes the dvd, then I get the following error message:

    The drive reported an error:
    Sense key = Medium Error
    Sense Code = Ox02
    No Seek Complete

I'm on a mac. Please help.

Tip: next time, first save as disc image, so that you won't have to encode again if the burn stage fails for some reason.

This error is typical of the burner not 'liking' the media. What brand of discs are you using? SL/DL? +R/-R? Several users reported that the error didn't come up when using Verbatim discs (my favorite brand, too).

Thanks for the reply. I'm using TDK DVD-R 1-x16x speed 4.7GB dvds. Maybe I ought to try Verbatim. What dya think?

Apple recommends Verbatim. When I use Verbatim I don't have issues (well, very rarely). Use "-R" for single-layer and "+R" for dual-layer (there aren't Verbatim dual-layer "-R").

I appreciate the suggestions. I went out to today about bought 10 Verbatim DVD-Rs, and have the same error now when I tried to burn. Bummer. My macbook pro is less than a month old. I've burned cds successfully from Itunes, but this is the first movie I've burned. Could there be something wrong with the DVD drive? If you have other suggestions, please help. Best, David

Use the "save as disc image" process so the encoding gets done and the entire "DVD" is saved to a ".toast" file. If that succeeds, then burn that image file back to a DVD. Burn at no more than half the max speed of the disc. If that fails, you probably have a bad drive and need to call AppleCare.

I upgraded to Toast 10 and that appears to have solved the problem. I can even use the TDK dvds as well. This forum is awesome!

Yeah, I was going to to post up that Toast 7 ( v7.0.4 was the last version) topped out at 8x speed for
media released BEFORE 2002. Toast 8 ( up to v. 8.0.5) is better and can handle up
to 16 x media released up to now ( i use it still on my Tiger Mac).

for Tiger Macs, v.8.05 is best
for Leopard and Snow Leopard, as well as Intel based Macs, use 10.0.7

gotta love those Toast patches that enable it to handle the Medium, ie. Discs, you burn!
