  1. Both IE and Firefox are very slow and I'm searching for a way to uninstall IE 8.... To see if it helps. This is the link that I found and it asks the # IE is which is 8 and what bit 32 or 64, but I can't locate that information. Both browsers take forever to load and I was wondering if uninstalling/reinstalling would help.

    Thanks a head of time!

  2. It's unlikely. Don't try to uninstall IE. IE is an integral part of the Windows OS. You are best not to mess with it. As for Firefox, go to your Start>Programs list and open the Firefox folder. Choose the (safe mode) option to launch Firefox with no add-ons. If it runs better then an extension is probably causing you issues.

Also I'd download the free version of Malwarebytes from malwarebytes.org, install, update, and run a full system scan. Then go to superantispyware.com and download the free portable scanner. Run it, update and do a full scan. Remove anything these two scanners find. That'll help rule out most spyware/malware issues.

tcory: XP is 32 bit. download and run Ccleaner - you may just have too much crap on the machine, in the cache. Do what Poppa says, it's not going to hurt, and will help your situation if you've gotten a bug.

You CAN uninstall IE8: It should take you back to the previous version of IE that was on your machine....IF you do it correctly.

I would recommend going to microsoft support and reading the correct way of uninstalling IE8 - taking you back to IE 7.

ONLY - if you've ruled out malware, spyware, or a virus.

  4. Hey Poppa, I did all the you said and I wrote down the last scan with the superantispyware.com and I had :
    1) Adware. Tracking Cookie (104)
    2) Unclassified. Oreans32 (12)
    3) Trojan.Agent/Gen-Hack Patch (4)
    120 Total
Had a good bit of different kinds on the malwarebytes.org. but I didn't write them down. It's still running about the same. Probably needs a Clean Install. I got a 2TB External HD at Wal-Mart for $130 the other day so I backed everything up.
    Thanks for your advice..
