PS2 and VCDs

Is there any way to play vcds on a Playstation 2????

I heard the European and Japanese versions can play VCD's, but not the one shipped to the states. Even if it will play commercial VCD's, still might not support CD-R/RW media.

The european and the us versions does not play commercial or homemade vcds or svcds....I dont know anything about the japanese version.
