If there is a hard drive built in then you should be able to pause and rewind live TV.

If it is strictly a DVD recorder with no drive then you will not be able to pause or rewind live TV.

It would probably be helpful if you could post the specific product(s) here that you are looking at.

Also, do you have cable, satellite, rooftop antenna.....?

I assume you mean a HDD
If you use a RW disk you can, and evan Overwrite a Program . You can with a +/- disk but not rewrite. Once an area is Written to thats it

im not just looking at one product but they are made for tv hard drive so there is no need for a computer

i was also considering a deskbook for this same application but i dont really know much about DVD rip if i lose quality or......

also with the medis drive its 1TB dedicated memory which is always safe as no internet

    what a conundrum lol
