  1. Hi all,

I'm having a problem playing burned vcds on my philips dvd 711 player. I live in Brazil where the tv system is PAL-M. My TV is a SONY 21' that allows the user to select the system to NTSC or PAL-M (Not PAL-N/B/G). I burned a Nero image file of European PAL VCD (25 fps/50 Hz). The VCD image was downloaded from a internet site (not authored by me).

The VCD plays only in B&W, and at each ~10 seconds it freezes for one second, then returns ~2 seconds back from the point where the movie freezed. The VCD plays this way on the entire movie.

I Know that the B&W problem is related to the PAL/NTSC compatibility with TV. But the freezing problem I don't know what is related with.

I burned the VCD on a cheap green CD-R media and on a gold KODAK CD-R media. The problem is the same with both.

I tried also to switch the system (PAL/NTSC) from the TV and DVD, but no results.

The DVD is conected to TV by its composite TV conector. There's no s-video or component video conectors on my TV.

I would apreciate some help here. What's the trick with this NTSC/PAL-M/PAL-N/... thing? I also expected that the picture rolls off on the TV, but this does not happens!!??

You just can't play a European Pal VCD in a Brazilian Pal-M system. You must to convert a file to NTSC format and burn it again.

  3. Why not Jpsilva?

I think if someone plays a pal-n vcd on a compatible dvd player using a tv that accepts pal-n (Sony VEGA 29'' can do it), sure will be fine, isn't it? Or in Brazil it isn't possible?

    Hi everyone,

I have the same problem with my VCD's, but I don't live in Brazil and I use a Philips DVD 710 to playback my burned VCD's. On my computer it works fine, except the audio. After the movie freezes, the audio is out of sync for a second or two, but it recovers.

Is this a typical problem for Philips DVD players?

    Regards, Ralf
