I'm using XViD4PSP to convert a series of MKV files. I'm trying to add hardcoded subs to the videos. After said videos are done converting, I want to put them into Sony Vegas for editing. My question is what would be the best option not only for quality but for filesize. The MKVs are about 200mb each, and I wouldn't mind getting roughly the same size.
I've toyed around with a couple of different settings, but the file size gets to just under 1GB for a single video file. I absolutely do not have the room to sustain that kind of file size at the moment.
I've also tried using Handbrake, but when I use it the subtitles cannot be burned into the video OR the video simply doesn't show up in Vegas.
Thanks in advance.

What codec did you try? h264 and xvid are the best for high compression but not good for any editing then. And to get lower file size change the bitrate under the video encoding settings.

Well...I found out that in order to edit with h264 I have to be using AVC video with AAC audio formatting. The problem is it makes the filesize tremendous. xvid doesn't work at all, as you stated. MPEG seems to be the way to go right now. I'm still trying to mess around with the different reencoding options in XViD4PSP.
