What's on the horizon? Is Blueray likely to replace dvd?

I have been out of pc/video stuff for a while because of a lack of $$ I finally have scrounged some $ together and want to make some wise purchases. I am considering a blue ray player for my htpc but want to know what you think. Is Blueray likely to replace dvd? Is it likely that both will exist side by side until something replaces blueray?

DVD will be around for some time. IMO, Blu-ray is a flawed medium, the design dictated by Hollywood. I think there will be much better HD solutions in the future. How far in the future, no idea.
