Getting a 720p output after burning

I have a bunch of Blu Ray avi files on my computer. When I use convertxtodvd to convert them to DVD the output is always 480 and not 720p. The source is 720p but I guess I lose that in the conversion process. Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone how I might correct this? Thanking you all in advance!!!

ConvertXtoDVD creates DVDs. DVDs do not support HD material, so the maximum resolution you can get is 720 x 480 (NTSC) or 720 x 576 (PAL). If you have a PS3 or bluray player capable of playing the AVCHD format then you can use MultiAVCHD or AVCHDCoder to create an AVCHD structure suitable for burning onto DVD blanks. This will preserve the 720p resolution (but will usually require re-encoding at around3 - 4 hours per movie or more). But you cannot put HD resolution on a DVD for a standard DVD player to play.

Ok thank you but it's not for a standard DVD player. It is for a Blu Ray player, Xbox, PS3 etc. I will have to try that method. Thank you.

FYI the xbox 360 does not support m2ts or the avchd format. You will need to use wmv hd or divx hd (though I am 99.99% sure the 360 doesn't support the mkv divx uses for hd now directly) (you can also do hd mp4 but I don't think it supports 6 channel audio in mp4 on the 360 - that may have changed recently or you may be able to mix standard ac3 6 channel audio into your mp4 hd). Though I think I read in a post that if you have the xbox 360 set up as a media center the newest divx will allow its hd mkv to stream inside windows media center. I haven't tested it myself on my 360 so I can't confirm or deny it.

The ps3 works great with avhcd which is one of guns1inger's recommendations. However DTS is not supported in avchd so if you intend to make a avchd disc or folder on usb drive (while being mindful of the fat32 4gig limit of course on external hdd's for the ps3) you'll need to convert to ac3.

Also be aware not all bluray players play avchd equally. Though you should not have an issue playing it on the ps3 - at least I don't when I've made avchd's from my hauppuage hdpvr with the provided Arcsoft Total Media Extreme software.

AVCHD does support DTS audio. The PS3 won't play back DTS audio from USB devices or HDDs, but happily plays it back if you burn the AVCHD structure to a DVD.

I remember reading posts saying AVCHD did not do dts. I think it was from some posts by eddv.

While the spec does not specifically say it does not support DTS, it only says that it supports Dolby Digital (AC-3) and Linear PCM.

Technically , DTS audio is not supported by AVCHD , but many players can play out of spec
