I am kind of new to video editing so excuse my ignorance. I have a couple of video files that are in HD 720p and I would like to burn them onto a dvd to view on my TV. I have tried already one time but the video was choppy and the sound ended up being ahead of it.
Am I supposed to convert the files to some other format before burning? I have nero 7 ultra as my software, does it work pretty good or do I need a different software?

Sorry, I need to be more specific. I don't want to make a HD DVD to play back in a HD player, I just want to play it back in in a normal DVD player. I 'm hoping to get a pretty good picture when turning it into standard dvd. What's the best way if possible?

    yes,

    you need several software tools,

avidemux will seprerate the streams and you the video stream and the audio stream

use an encoder cce $$$ or HeNC to encode the video file into an DVD mpeg compliant stream such as mv2

you can use fitCD to create a script for avisynth ( frame server )

it will allow you to get the best results from the encoder, better than just dropping the video file in the encoder prg window

framer servers read the video stream resize the frame then give it to the encoder to be recoded, its behind the scene function when working correctly.

I have done this with several HD videos, many people here are more adept at it than i am

most recently i converted a PBS broadcast from 720p to std DVD it came out excellent

not like watching the HD broadcast, but just as good or better than if i had watched it on std TV, and i encoded it as 16:9 widescreen DVD

    tools

    avidemux free

    encoder

    fitcd script maker

gui4dvd authoring program to convert your encoded video and audio into a DVD files

    imgburn to burn your DVD

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    one step converter

    convertX

    super

I haven't tried them with HD material

still need to burn after converting
