  1. I'm having an odd problem with newer downloaded 720p mkv files. I've been playing 720p and 1080p mkv files with KMPlayer on my HTPC for over 2 years without any issues. Over the past few months, almost all the 720p video I download is very pixelated during playback. My old 720p and 1080p files still playback just fine, only the newer stuff is pixelated. I have made zero changes to my HTPC hardware or software configurations. I'm at a loss here..

Here are a few examples (using MediaInfo) of files that are very pixelated during playback:

    File 1 - 720p

    File 2 - 720p

Any ideas? I'm hoping someone can see something that I'm obviously overlooking.

  2. FYI - I just tried updating KMPlayer to the latest version, still have the same problem. I then uninstalled the ATI Catalyst drivers, and reinstalled the latest version of it, still no change. This is frustrating!

  3. your screenshots have cut off the encoding settings, copy & paste text would have been a better idea

a common culptrit for this with some decoders is weightp. weightp was introduced a few months ago into the main branch of x264. some decoders have issues with weightp - pixellated playback, you can try external decoder config in kmplayer or other software e.g. mpchc, mpc+ffdshow, vlc

I just googled weightp, and came up with what I think might be the issue. I'll try a few things when I get home tonight.

I'll keep the copy/paste in mind for next time.. Thanks.

  5. Problem fixed!! All I did was upgrade CoreAVC to the latest version.

  6. yes, coreavc 1.x has the weightp decoding bug

    versions 2.x are fine

ffdshow and divx h.264 are fine too, and free alternatives to coreavc (divx h.264 is actually faster for decoding)
