    It might already be h264...

But I guess you want a mkv/mp4 with h264 or? MakeMKV and reconvert/shrink with handbrake.

I think ripbot264 can handle evo directly. I believe that is what I used to convert some hddvds I have to mkv awhile ago.

Just be aware that at least on a dual core amd 2.7ghz like my pc it will take a long time for ripbot to simply load the video file. Don't automatically assume it froze. It could take twenty to thirty minutes or more on a dual core to load the video file prior to being able to access the preference menus.

Edit - yep ripbot can do hd-dvd directly (and yes I had ripped the disc with anydvdhd from my xbox 360 hddvd just as you intend to do)

I dont know what I want exactly. I want something that will play on and take advantage of the ipad's 1024X768 resolution.

So you need anyhddvd if you use ripbot?

Not exactly. You need anydvdhd to rip the disc in the first place. I think there may be a dvdfab version that does hddvd but I don't know if you can still get it or if its still available.

And by the way ripbot does have a mp4 ipod setting. The newest release may have a ipad preset. Or more likely you could manipulate a ipod setting to match the ipad requirements.

Just use ripbot264. At least the older versions did work with ripped evo files.

The iPad will display 720p but not 1080p, so use the 720p drop down option in Ripbot264. As yodo313 says, it is going to take a while, even on a dual core. I have found it works best at night when every other application is closed. The resultant file will also be Blu-Ray compatible so you can make an AVCHD on a DVD-R very quickly with mulitAVCHD. The resultant file will also be DRM free so the iPad will allow output via VGA is you have purchased that adapter.
