Does anyone know how to split a video into parts using the razor tool on Adobe Premiere Pro? I am editing an M4V (MP4 tailored for ipod) in Premiere and I can't figure out how to use the razor tool on it. I have it dragged the video into the project window (and the 'source' window) but I can't figure out how to get it into the timeline window for editing. I drag it there and nothing happens.

I just want to split this video into three parts! How can I do this?

    Thanks

Are you using the arrow tool (press v on the keyboard)? Then click and drag the file from the project window to the timeline. To cut with the razor tool, position the CTI (current time indicator) to where you want to cut the file on the timeline, then press CTRL-K.

Thanks - I'm using the selection tool but it still won't let me drag the video into the timeline. Is there something I'm missing? The program window says "program (no sequences)" and I can't 'add tracks' under the sequence menu because it is greyed out. I swear there is something really simple I'm doing wrong and I can't figure out what it is...

You need to have a sequence (timeline) so that you can add video to the timeline. So try FILE -> NEW -> SEQUENCE and choose the preset that most closely matches your source file. After you've created the sequence, you can drag the video file to it.
