  1. I have a lot of DV Digital8 tapes that I would like to transfer to DVD. Digital 8 is old news of course so most of the searches I do come up with old information.

I'm trying to find the easiest (fewest steps/problems) method to get the data off the tapes and onto DVD (in DVD format), with scenes being split into chapters or whatever automatically. Really prefer if I don't have to review the footage as I'll never get through it.

I would also like the quality to be very good. Ideally, somebody has written some software to do this and then automatically launch something like CCE to do the encoding, then automatically launch something to get that output onto DVD. Kind of like the "DVD Rebuilder" software, but for DV input and with scene detection for chapters.

Assuming this doesn't exist, maybe my best option is one of these off the shelf products such as something from Ulead or Adobe? Most reviews are outdated, and the reviews that I've seen don't compare the mpeg2 encoding quality.

    Many thanks.

  2. Well, might somebody be able to recommend some simple software to move my DV to DVD that encodes the mpeg2 streams in high quality?

  3. To convert your "Digital Video.avi" in "Videoobject.vob" you need XMedia Recode.
Copy this in the Editor and save it to "file.xmr":

I need PAL. Perhaps you need NTSC, I don't know where you live.
    Download this file:
    http://www.moviemaze.de/media/trailer/delivery/42763/aee4d8244d6e9d9046262c93fb6de2eb/...920.mov?down=1

and convert it to an *.vob
play it with MPC or MPC HC (perhaps you also like ffdshow)

To create a DVD, you need GUI for dvdauthor (creates an VIDEO_TS-Folder)

Burn the Folder with ImgBurn to an DVD+R or DVD-R

On a DVD-5 (4,7 GB) you should get about 145 min in really good Quality.

Try it and let me know what you think about it.

For quick projects I use VirtualDub to concatenate, trim, etc. the DV.avi capture files, then direct stream copy to a final DV.avi. (a DV codec such as Cedocida DV needs to be installed). Then use AVStoDVD to transcode and author (with basic menus if needed) to a VIDEO_TS folder. Burn to DVD with ImgBurn.

  5. Doesn't get any easier than http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/

You just have to decide whether the quality is good enough for you.

Fortunately you can try before you buy.
