    Ok,

I'm trying to record demonstration videos on how to use certain audio software. I need to do a picture-in-picture video as well.

I've been testin Camtasia Studio, but it chokes completely when I try to import HD .mov videos in the project.

Is the Camtasia only option in the markets or is there any other good screen recorded softwares around?

When you say 'chokes' what exactly do you mean ?

Do you man that the screen cap only shows a black square where the video element shpuld be ? If that is the case then the video overlay has overriden the screen. ? If that is so then turn of 'Hardware Acceleration' in video properties.

Plenty of other softwares. I find WM Capture from Applian quite good - supports WMV and MPeg2 capture.

Well, when I add in .MOV video to the PIP track, it will play the project for a while, then it just stops working. It wont respond to push of the play button and sometimes I need to do the ctr+alt+del and close the software by force via the task manager.

Also, when I try to produce the video to a file, it stops around 5-10% and tells me it has finished the project. But it hasn't.

Moreover, the audio doesn't stay in sync everytime I'm editing the video (doings cuts, splits, add callouts, etc.) and I also keep ketting weird noises and snaps / crackles from the audio track. However, in the produced video file the sound is allright.

But the overall experience of editing video with Camtasia is horrible..

I dont think it's my computer specs. I have decent pc (i7 950, 12gb ram) and my graphics card should be ok for simple video editing (geforce 9800 gt 1gb or something).

Thanks for the tip btw, ill check out the WM Capture.

Ok. But WM Capture is just simply a Screen Capture program. You would have to provide your own window/player for the video.

Have not used Camtasia for a long time. Back then it was also just a simple Screen Capture program. Typical problem with much software these days. Tries to do everything yet masters nothing.

  5. So your question is more about video editing (stability) than screen capture ?

Is the capture part ok ?

What format did you capture in?

What kind of MOV is giving you problems?

    Capture works ok yeah.

I'm using default settings when capturing, but I changed the frame rate to 30fps. And after editing I try to export it using the HD preset (.MP4 file, but I changed the video settings to high quality and audio 320 kbps)

The MOV is video from my Canon EOS 500D digital camera. It produces .MOV files. Here's some details:

    1280x720
    Frame rate: 30fps
    Bitrate: 27260 kbps

  8. If you have quicktime installed, try downgrading to an earlier build (like 7.4.x or 7.5.x) , the newer versions have caused crashing with many programs like sony vegas, corel video studio, etc...

Camtasia's editing program uses the same interface through the quicktime API, so it too should be prone to crashing. I use camtasia, but not the editor bundled with it
