I'm looking for some recommendations on software to edit videos and create DVD's

I've got a mini DV camcorder + one of those smaller ones that records .mov movies (like the Flip)

I've used Ulead Video Studio in the past - that's been OK and fairly simple to use
I'll go with that if I can't find anything better

Are there any credible open source solutions?
Is there anything that's 'one package' - that included everything like Video Studio?

What are the best paid packages?

I'm using a PC - so looking for PC solutions

    Thanks

    OM

Nope, there are no good open source solutions. Latest videostudio pro x3 is pretty good. Or else maybe vegas movie studio.

    thanks for letting me know
i spent a little time researching on this website before asking - i'm a little surprised that there isn't an open source 'package'
i think i'm correct in saying u can get smaller bits of open source software that do everything u need
it would be great if it would be possible to have as one package

question: i've never used apple's final cut pro before - but i've heard lt's of good things about it + the ease of use and learning - how do the pc comparables compare?

i've given a go at adobe premier and after effects before - i'm sure if i'd given 20+ hours i might have got somewhere!
not user friendly for most inexperienced i would say

If your camcorder is the type that shoots h.264 video and your computer details show what you are going to use for editing, VideoStudio would probably be your best choice. The CPU requirements for dealing with h.264 are quite high. VSP helps this by creating a proxy file of your video content, allowing lesser powered PC's to work more smoothly with it. If you are using a fast dual-core or a quad-core CPU, Vegas Movie Studio is a more robust package.
