    hello!

I want to embed a 500kb quicktime movie into my website. this apparently is hard to realize unless my tiny clip is converted into a .flv

I've tried this with ffmpegX: the file it gives me neither has any size (0 byte), nor does its icon tell me, what it's meant for (neutral document icon). it does have its correct suffix (.flv) and tells me it's a movie file - but (as expected from the appearance just described) won't play on any player.

have I missed out on something?

cheers in advance! & all the best

    -jonas

Try something else. Like avidemux, video monkey.

And you can also convert to mp4 with h264 video and aac audio(it's supported by flash), try ffmpegx again or handbrake.

This can happen if the conversion failed. The reason it failed can be found in the log. Click the blue "i" in the Progress window to access the log. (*)

Most document icons are given by the default application to open them. Unless you instructed your system otherwise, QuickTime Player will be such an application for movie files. QuickTime doesn't have an icon for .flv files, as it doesn't handle .flv without third party components.

0 kB files will obviously not play in any player. Good .flv files will play in QuickTime Player if you also have Perian installed. VLC seems to play most .flv files as well.

More users have run into this. There are workarounds to get useful output (as mentioned in those threads), but not exactly the one-click solution users have come to expect.
