On a lot of online content & Some already on my PC, the video playback has black areas where it looks like it is sparkly or turns pixelated into blue or white. How can I fix this & I did install K-Lite Codec Pack. Thanks in advance

  2. Try calibrating your display and/or video card settings and updating drivers

If it happens with different sources and different media players (try vlc, kmplayer, mpchc), it suggests a system wide or hardware issue

VLC works fine, no problems with it. Now I have noticed it with PowerDVD from time to time. I'm updating video drivers now to see if this helps.

Codec packs are generally considered BAD!!

You should just download & install the specific codecs you need when you need them.

  8. MKV and MP4 are containers, not codecs. To open MKV and MP4 files you need the appropriate DirectShow file reader (Haali, Quicktime Alternative) or you can use a media player that has those file readers built in (for example MPCHC, VLC, KMPlayer). Then you need decoders for the audio and video codecs used in the files. Or you can use players that have those decoders built in (again, MPCHC, VLC, KMPlayer).

PowerDVD & ffdshow cover just about every codec needed for me. I use the PowerDVD codec for mpag2 & h264 videos (the version that still lets you use it as a DirectShow codec) & ffdshow for everything else. I own PowerDVD 8 but never use the player just the codec in MPC-HC.

Ok I have Power DVD 9 & ffdshow installed, and am having the same problem, also uninstalled k=lite codec pack, uninstalled & reinstalled Power DVD 9. Updated video drivers as well (ATI Radeon HD 4200) & yet when I play back DVD's & some online content. there is alot of white pix-elation in black areas. And VLC media player plays video fine. Any other ideas or suggestions?

I've seen something like what you see when I was in a store looking to purchase a LCD monitor. I was running video LCD test patterns on the LCD before purchase. I had the store change the video cable to a new DVI cable and the sparkles were gone (the store had a VGA cable connected).

Maybe try another cable if you have one, or a different monitor if you have one.

I take it the DVDs play ok in a standalone DVD player?

I'm using a 32" LCD Tv as my monitor, using VGA cable & I adjusted some settings in ATI Catalyst, seems to be ok now, havent had much time to test or get back on here until now. Another thing while I am posting, I tried using HDMI cable, but the picture quality was real bright & kinda grainy, any ideas on this?
