  1. I was wondering if anyone knew of any software that has the ability to delete "selected" parts of a video file (during editing).
So far, I've tried 4 (trial-versions) programs, and none of them has that feature. I'm on the verge of trying
my 5th. (I use the trial-version before I make the "commitment")
There must be a way of doing that, without spending thousands of dollars on professional editing equipment
and software. I mean.....I've seen professional equipment advertised.....around $799+. And professional
    software for....around....$2000+
I've also seen professional services that do that, but they charge professional prices !
Which is a little ridiculous for the average person.
So far....AVS seems to be the best software.....and they don't even have that feature.
I contacted Pinnacle, and they stated that their software doesn't even do that.
Any advice as to who might have any "contacts" in the video world ?

Clarify if you mean parts of a frame (e.g. the top corner of a section of video, or an object within a video like a person) , vs. sequences of entire frames (e.g. from 1hour 1minute, to 1hour 3minutes deleted. )

All video editors to the latter , no low priced editors do the former. You basically have to mask out or rotoscope objects. A fairly decent tool for this would be After Effects $ , a free option might be blender. Keep in mind if you mask something out, you have to replace it with something , e.g neighboring pixels, or even black screen

If you can describe EXACTLY what you want to do, maybe you will get better options suggested

What I mean is.....I've got a video 2h15m length, including commercials. I want to "trim" the commercials out. Save the revised
video (maybe under another name so as not to be confusing), and then
run it through a DVD authoring program to set chapters. And lastly,
    burn it to DVD.

What you are attempting is "Video 101" - the most basic of basics of video editing.

Womble MPEG-VCR. Download demo and buy for $19, and guide to to it.
Womble MPEG Video Wizard. Download demo and buy for $99, and guide to use it.

For basic commercial removal, either works.

For FLV and MPEG files and many others, I have been using AVIDEMUX. It saved the revised video without recoding.

For WMV files I have used MOVICA. Also it does not recode.

For FLV files only try the excellent Moyea video editor.

All of these programs are free.

    Have a nice time trimming!

  9. Also VirtualDub and Mpeg2Cut2 (both free). Depending on the source video and intermediate video type.
