Two stripped subtitle streams but only one langauge?

I notice often when using DVD Decrypter or PGCDemux (or I guess anything that strips subs) it often reports two subtitle streams (often 0x20 & 0x21) although there is only ONE language for the subs and they do strip separately.

My guess is that one stream is for the standard main dialog track and the other is for like let's say a location on the screen or something like that. And if thats the case I guess I cannot OCR that second stream and use it?

The second stream could be a forced subtitle (like automatic translation when someone on screen is speaking a foreign language). And you should be able to OCR it just like any other subtitle stream. The first STAR WARS movie comes to mind with forced subtitles (you know, the 1977 movie).

SubRip can capture the text, but you might have to parse through most of the movie before the first forced sub appears.

Ok, so if I can capture that text (even if there is like 3 lines in it) that still means I would need to force it somewhere into the main dialog SRT right?

There's a very good chance both are exactly the same if the 2 SUP files are identical or nearly identical in size. The difference is that one would be for 4:3 TV display and the other for 16:9 TV display. That is, the shapes of the letters may be different, but the dialog exactly the same. You can open the SUP files in SubtitleCreator or in SupViewer to compare the 2 streams to see if they're the same or not. Subtitles for 16:9 movies on DVD are required to have 2 subtitle streams for each track (language), even if most of the time they're exactly the same. If I'm correct, in your case they're not the same (different shaped letters).
