I'm trying to capture a tv program recorded on my dvr using cables connected to my dvd recorder. I've been doing this for years and never paid attention - it just worked for me. Now I'm having trouble so I read the manual and become aware of the two blue lights signifying analog or digital and I don't know the difference. When digital is on, my software does nothing. When analog is on, the software actually records...but the video is all black with a thin red vertical line. Is it my Canopus or the firewire or the cable or my settings that are at fault. I'm ready to buy the 110 but hesitate in case it's a simple fix. Can someone help me please? Thank you.

Unless you are using a analog VHS recorder/player or signals off a TV cable for source, everything will already be digital. I'm not really clear on what you are doing. Most Canopus boxes are Analog>Digital DV-AVI converters. If you already have a digital signal, nothing analog to convert. You just transfer it to the PC. Or are you trying to convert one digital format to another?

    Hi...thanks for the reply.
I'm simply capturing a tv program from my dvr to my pc by way of my dvd recorder in avi format. For some reason, it stopped working. My software video window is black and it won't capture any frames. The PC sees the canopus...I just can't get my programs to capture. I usually use WinDV but I tried Ulead and Movie Maker with the same result. The software freezes up and I have to reboot. Do you have any suggestions?

About all I can suggest is to try the Canopus on another computer, including your FireWire cable and see if it works there. If it does, them maybe a software problem with your PC. It could also relate to a software update or change, even a Windows update. You might try a restore to a date before the problem. If it doesn't work on a different computer, then maybe a Canopus or cable problem.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately I don't have firewire on another pc. When the problem arose I suspected it might be windows related so I did a reinstall....didn't help. I'm going to try a different cable and see it makes a difference...if not, I'll buy the advc 110 and hope that does the trick. Thanks again for replying to my post. It's so depressing when noone does.
