Hello, everyone. I just finished building my PC. Here is is..........
LG Super Multi Blu Blu-Ray burner / player
    6 gig ram
    ASUS P6T Delux motherboard
    Windows 7 Ultimate
    Soundblaster X-Fi Professional
    i7 Processor 920 version
    Antec 750 watt power supply
    BOSE Companion 5 speaker system
    LG 24" LCD LED monitor
    V-10 cooler
    1 terabyte hi speed harddrive
    generic video card

The last item is the problem.

Could anyone give me some recommendations for a video card? It seems there has been some radical changes in video cards, lately

I don't play games so I don't need a $400 video card. But, I do a lot of video editing and watch Blu-ray movies continually. So, I need a card that is compatable with Blu - ray movies..........smooth performance (no stuttering as some older video cards do), a video card that is a good match for my high end monitor (6 million to 1 contrast ratio)

    Thank you

Low price: Nvidia GT 210 -> Supports DXVA hardware decoding for h264. I own one, it works perfectly. The GT 220 is faster and has HDMI out.

See the following chart for CPU utilization of Blu Ray playback with the GT 210 and GT 220

In the ATI world, the 4850 is a good price/performance card

totally agree with the above assessment...the 4850 for the money does it all

here's another model that does real well

i myself have the 4870 and it cooks rice and beans...nvr had an issue...just make sure you check for updates with those ati drivers...they're constantly changing

These are great recommendations. I will probably get the 4870 since I want to get as high end as I - reasonably - can.

Others (at Frye's and Best Buy) have recommended the 5770 series architecture - such as the Sapphire 5770 or the Raetheon 5770 - as the "state of the art" in video cards............. but I don't know much about this. I am puzzled as just what this means.

basically the 5770 is a little faster than the 4870(the 5770 being the newer model)....runs on less power and has a few little things that make it a tad faster...but in terms of noticeable speed...not much..the 4850, like the 4870, is an older card but for the money and for what it can do is rock solid...great little card...can play any game w/o a hitch...i've owned a few Sapphires and havent had any issues with any of em
