  1. I get an error that says: DVD Shrink encountered an error and can not continue. Out of memory. The parameter is incorrect.

I have never had this problem before. Someone please help me.

What program are you using to rip the DVD with? That sounds like a decryption problem. Is it a Sony disc? Try DVDFab HD Decrypter. It's not updated very often lately, so if it's a very new movie, the decryption may not be up to date for a while.

    And welcome to our forums.

  3. I'm using DVD shrink and AnyDVD in the background and it will open it just fine but when I select Nero to backup and burn the disc it starts to do it but then gives me that error.

Thank you. I had to join because I am such a dummy when it comes to computers and I am trying to make some backup DVD's of my son's movies because he is so hard on the DVD's and I find myself buying "his favorite movie" at least 3 times

Don't use Nero to burn, use ImageBurn,it's a much better program for burning. The combination of AnyDVD and DVD decrypter should work. I assume your using DVD Shrink to bring it down to fit on a DVD5?
What ever program you use it will ask for a destination directory, whatever directory you opt for will contain your ripped or shrunk files.

If you used Nero or ImgBurn (Recommended), both of them should generate a error log you can check to see if anything is obvious. Or post it here.

  7. What version of shrink do you use? There are numerous ones & it hasn't been updated for years. Try handbrake or some other encoder.

  8. Iam also have the same problem with DVD Shrink with the out of memory issue, but my problem is a little different, ive used AnyDVD to rip the film into an img file then mounted it using Virtual Clone Image then tried to shrink it through DVD shrink only for it to give me the memory error after about 10 secs, i can copy it ok if i was to copy it straight to a dual layer disc and the film in question is Twilight 2

  9. T2 was made long after Dvdshrink, so it's not familiar with that kind of copy protection.

  10. But its got no protection on there now as ive used AnyDVD to copy it to an img, if thats the case of not bein able to use DVDShrink is there another way of shrinking this to fit on a 4.7 gb disc

  11. Amurillo and lblaker,

Here's what works for me 99% of the time for backups:

o I check the size of the original disc before starting the process to determine whether or not it will fit on a single-layer disc.
o Rip the disc to hard drive using DVDFab HDDecrypter (freeware). (If it's a very recent disc, the freeware version, which the author has decided to update to the newer encryptions after a delay from first issue, may not work for awhile. I wait.)
o If the resulting size fits on a single-layer disc, burn with Imgburn.
o If the resulting disc is too large to fit on a single-layer disc, shrink using DVDShrink, which will do it automatically. (Double-layer discs are so much more expensive than SL discs, I just never considered them to be cost-effective, so I don't use them.)
o Burn to disc with Imgburn.

Never had to use anything else. For that other 1%, nothing seemed to work and I just didn't make a backup.

When I was a newbie, I created my fair share of unusable "coasters" as a not-unexpected part of the learning curve. My "99% solution" above was the result of learning curve lessons learned the hard way.

    Good luck!
