Every time that I convert the audio of my video, the resulting AC3 file is blank/silent. I've converted it with multiple programs to the same result. What's going on here? It can't be a codec issue if I can play the original file, can it?

The audio of the original file is: AAC version 4, 89.2 Kbps

    Question 2:
I encoded only the second half of my video. Now I'll have the whole audio file once I can convert it. What's the best way to cut out the first half of my audio, then sync it up with the video?

I've converted files with aac audio to ac3 with winff.

Also you can use aacDECdrop.exe to convert aac to wav and then convert the wav to ac3 with aften or ffmpeg.

As far as your second question goes one way to go about it would be to convert the aac to wav with aacdecdrop then edit that wav the way you want it. Convert your new wav to ac3 with aforementioned programs. Not the most elegant of soultions but aac doesn't edit/cut very well and wav does.

Others may have different soultions but thats the best way I know.

Another way to convert AAC to AC3

    1. Convert (Decode) AAC to wav using Nero AAC Codec (NeroAacDec.exe) command line version.
Alternatively NeroAAC UI can be used if you don't want to use command line.
    2. Convert wav to ac3 using Eac3to.
Alternatively EAC3to conversion utility if you like GUI.
