  1. Hi guys,
not sure this is the right place to post this, here it is my question:
is there a way to have a .mp2 audio stream playing into VirtualDub (or one of its "brothers")?
Because it seems I am not able to find it.

Recent versions of VirtualDub do have a built-in MP1/MP2 decoder.

If you want to import an MP2 audio stream, first you have to wrap it in a WAV container (with mpa2wav.exe, for example).

Also, keep in mind that VirtualDub DOES NOT open files that don't contain a video stream.

  3. VirtualDubMod can import an MP2 file as an audio stream but can't seem to play it. But it can mux the MP2 audio along with the video. VirtualDub can open an MPG or AVI file with MP2 audio and can play it, mux it, or convert and recompress it.

I have the latest stable versions of VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod and VirtualDub-MPEG2.
I can import a .mp2 stream but it's mute when I play the video.

Usually I take the mp2 file and convert it to wav via BeSweet. Is it the same thing?

I have a video (short video clip) and an audio track, what I want (if possible) is to ear the audio while I'm working in VirtualDub(s).

I have a short video clip (m2v from MPEG2-TS) and the audio, I want to mux them but I would like to be able to hear the audio while I'm working in VirtualDub(s). So far I have achieved this only converting mp2 to wav.

I was going to tell you to try this:

Menu "Options" --> Preferences --> AVI,

and see if the checkbox "Prefer internal audio decoders" is ticked.
however on my system, VirtualDub plays the MP2 tracks, even when that checkbox is unticked.

So I suppose your computer has a problem between VirtualDub and the audio configuration/driver.

    EDIT:

No, it's not the same thing.

You should not be using Virtualdub (or any of its kin) to MUX an M2V and Audio, as that would CONVERT it to some form of AVI (uncompressed, or whatever compression YOU set up). If you want to mux, just use a standard MPEG2-PS muxer, such as Imago or Manzanita or TMPGEnc.

VirtualDub doesn't even see the file when I try to load it.
VirtualDubMod and VirtualDub-MPEG2 load the file but no audio.
I tried that option on VD and VD-MPG2, I can't see it on VDM.
    Doesn't work anyway.

I knew it, asked just to be sure.

I didn't say I was going to use VirtualDub to mux them (actually I will need them for DVD authoring) but I need to check some things on VirtualDub and I'd like to be able to ear the audio.

Use the "Files of type" pulldown to select "*.*". Or type in "*.*" in the filename edit box then press Enter.

  9. I had done that already, it gives me an error saying the file is of an unknown or unsupported type.
I checked the file with GSpot:

    File Type: MPEG1/MPEG2 (.MP2/.MPA)
    Mime Type: audio/mpeg

  10. VirtualDub can't import MP2 audio. I thought I mentioned that in post #3 but it looks like I left that detail out. If you only need to use VirtualDub to "check some things" why don't you just convert the MP2 audio to uncompressed WAV and import that instead? I'd use Audacity with the ffmpeg source plugin.

  11. For the simplest reason: I didn't want to convert it.
But it looks like it's the only way.
