I have a bunch of AVIs (tv eps) that are supposed to be DivX 5.0 with Mp3 audio. They play fine on my PC but wont play on my PS3. PS3 should support DivX & Mp3 audio so I don't know what the deal is. Here's all the diagnostic data on one of the avis:

possibly because they are packed bit stream,run them through avidemux-settings -video-copy-audio copy-save as avi
its really quick even on a laptop.it will automatically ask you if you want to unpack bit stream just click on yes button.then press save. hope this helps
