  1. Hello, noob here.

Have downloaded a movie in .mkv format, 640 x 272, avc codec.

Converted it to .avi using Any Video Convertor for compatibility with a standalone divx player. Wasn't sure what frame size to use so chose 640 x 480 from the drop down menu. Sounded about right!

THe resulting file plays in a rather small box via VLC. I can't zoom it to full screen or anything. I assume if I burn it to disc it will come on like this on my TV too.

Any clue as to what size I should've converted it to? THere's a 480x272 option... and many others. I'm clueless.
Also, there's an srt subs file with the film, will it run okay with the converted file (I know I will need to check the filenames).

    Any help much appreciated.

Convert it to 640x272. If you can't choose it switch to another converter like xmedia recode.

  3. Just saw on the Any Video Converter menu that I can choose to use the original size, which in this case is 640x272
I will do that then Baldrick, thank you.

I'd thought that using ANY mkv frame size would make the file incompatible for normal TV viewing, probably because I had problems playing a large frame size mkv file on my PC once... is that something to do with sizes of 700+ or something like that?

Anyway I will convert to original size now, thanks again for confirming it will work out okay!
