Hello, I am new to this forum.
I currently install a new pioneer AVIC-Z110BT head unit and I was trying to play the avi, mp4 movies from the USB Flash drive or SD, but no luck.

I have downloaded some movies from the internet and some were able to play. But when I tried to convert it from my dvd to avi...etc, it saids either resolution error or track error.

Here is one of the movie I can playback without problem.
    The format looks like this.
    http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/5826/dx50.jpg

Which program I should use to convert and get the exact result ?

I want to be able to convert my dvd videos to
    Divx 5 588x238 25.00 fps 730kbps video
Mpeg Audio Layer 3 48000Hz stereo 112kbps audio

So far none of my programs will get my that result.

I was using FabDVD, Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate, WinAVI Video Converter and AVS Video Converter.

Any help will be great. Thanks.

Please change topic subject! DX50 doesn't say much. Just click on the edit-button to change it.

Try FREEE tools like AutoGK or StaxRip. You can try convert to xvid also as it should work on most divx players.

And open the file that works in mediainfo and change to view->text and copy and paste all information here.

No you don't. If you're trying to emulate some piece of junk you downloaded, rest assured that the encoder was incompetent. The warning/error messages you're getting when trying to copy those specs are correct. No one with any knowledge at all makes AVIs in that resolution. Let AutoGK with the ESS chipset option enabled when installing do a proper job of it.

I am not trying to get junk. The reason I need help is because if I use a higher and better quality encoding, it will not play at all. I just can't figure out why. I have been trying to playback different .avi files. Some works some don't. By looking at the working ones, I saw the encoding information. Thats why I want to figure out how to get that exact info and put my dvd movies into that format, so I can watch it in the car.

Try what manono suggested, then - install AutoGK, and make sure you choose to enable the ESS compatibility option when installing it. AutoGK should be able to re-encode your ripped DVDs to AVIs which will be playable on a stand-alone DVD player that supports DivX/Xvid - and you don't have to limit the videos to 700MB, either.

A general list of the things you should watch for when trying to determine whether or not a video will play on your DivX/Xvid-capable DVD player can be found here.

  6. Thanks, Ai Haibara. I think, though, that he's trying to make standalone-compatible AVIs from his own DVDs. The downloaded AVIs are just 'templates' for what he hopes to accomplish. I think.

Hello Manono and Haibara, thanks for the reply.

This is what I want to be accomplished. I have tons of DVD movies in the car, just for my 3 years old daughter. I bought a pioneer avic-z110bt car audio head unit http://pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/CarAudioVideo/In-Dash/GPS-Navigation-Systems/AVIC-Z110BT
That allows me to playback dvd movies. It has a wire in the back that allows me to plug in the USB Flash drive. I was just thinking to rip the dvd movies into one single .avi ....etc, so I don't need to carry those DVDs in the car. I can just simply play back the movies from the USB FLash drive.

But this pioneer is very strange. It saids from the menu. If I play movies back from the USB Flash, It won't play DIVX file. Only .avi wmv, mp4...etc.

When I tested it, I used one of the previous downloaded movie from the internet which has the following encoded format and it works.
    Divx 5 588x238 25.00 fps 730kbps video
Mpeg Audio Layer 3 48000Hz stereo 112kbps audio

But when I tried ripping the movies from my own dvd and convert to .WMV, MP4, AVI files. It will not play. My stereo unit keeps saying either bad resolution error, or tracks can't be played, it will be skipped...etc.

Until now, I still can't figure out why.

I just trying to save some space and hoping that I can put the movies in the flash drive and allow me to play back.

    Hope I explain it clear.

    Best Regards
    CED

You probably caught my post right before I edited it. Sometimes, I just type faster than my mind works... and I was probably thinking about the way I primarily use AutoGK, for re-encoding AVIs for my DVD players.

mbworldz: Yes, AutoGK should handle that for you. Just make sure you install it with ESS compatibility enabled. If you've ripped the DVDs, you can then convert them to AVI with AutoGK, and they should play on your player (they should already be in a resolution your player will like, at that).

AVI is a container - it can hold DivX or Xvid-compressed video, of course. .divx videos are really just AVIs with renamed extensions, mostly used to show the video used DivX Ultra features.

Oh yeah, you're right. It didn't say that when I was responding. I do that a lot myself - write a reply, go back and read the post to which I was replying again, decide I had completely misread the post I just answered, and then write a new reply hoping no one else saw my reply before I changed it.

And since you got your edit in before I posted, had I read your edit after I posted I would have edited mine also. Sorry.
