I've lots of MP4 files shooted with the N95 and now I've created a video with Sony Vegas.

    The MP4 specs

    The Export settings

Every MP4 file has another framerate from 25fps to 29fps (most are in the 27fps).
I've seen from the offical N95 specs, that it shoots 30fps. I've to choose 30fps, right?

550 MB of MP4's and with these settings it will be 1,25GB
I would love to transcode and not change the whole codec but that isn't possible in Vegas I guess.

Wich settings would you use to export?

    680x480 mpeg2? 640x480 sounds more correct. And why mpeg2? use h624/avc video.

And if you are ONLY cutting the mp4 try avidemux for lossless cutting. Under video and audio choose copying.

    Thanks for your reply

I already know Avidemux, it's very handy but I also do some effects etc

I've tried this setting on project and the file size is almost the same, in the 550MB.
Just curious, what are the advantages MPEG2 vs AVC? Is it better compressing and takes less size? The AVC seems laggy?

Is 30fps good? the N95 video's are from 25 to 29fps, but (according to the specs) the N95 shoots 30fps.
Do I must select: 'allow source to adjust framerate' ?

why are you using 680 as the ouput size? the source you show a screenshot of is 640x480.

i'd guess 30fps is fine, as long as the output looks the same as the input. mediainfo and gspot don't alway get the fps of the video correct.

don't change the framerate to 25, like you have picture in the last screenshot.

mp4 provides better compression, but can be hard for older computers to play smoothly. mpg-2 is easier for a computer to play.

It's fine I've changed it to 640x480 (I didn't save on the screenshot) as for then fps it's 30.

    I have a Core2Quad, maybe it isn't laggy but I don't like it (maybe it's VLC?). It's not as smooth as MPEG2
The video is like those new HD TV's with over 100Hz (when I bought my HD TV I noticed directly). I find it very annoying, I prefer 50Hz

the mpeg2 render you used a bitrate of around 6,000kbps, the avc only 2,700kbps. try rendering at the same bitrate and see which you prefer.

    Thanks for your help
I will stick with the MPEG2 (first I made a very dumb mistake by putting 680x480 wich was a error)

    I'm back again

I did a mistake, there were 2 codecs for MP4. The one AVC/AAC (that was apparently for Ipod) and the normal AVC codec.
Now I tried the normal AVC codec and looks like after some testing it is very good. I will go for AVC I guess.

I also tried Uncompressed AVI (RGB) and that looks stunning!
This video is made in the dark and you see a big diffrence between the RGB and the other codecs...

Maybe I will backup all the MP4's with the project (550MB) for the future to encode to RGB. Just like the professional movie restore process. My friend would have to stay with the MPEG, I think we should stick with the same video, that's the downside.
